About Purple Heart Day
Purple Heart Day is a commemorative observance in the United States that honors the men and women of the military who were wounded or killed in combat. Established to recognize the bravery and sacrifice of service members, it is named after the oldest military award still given to U.S. military members. While not a federal public holiday, it is observed nationwide through ceremonies, flag displays, and tributes to acknowledge the debt owed to those awarded the Purple Heart.
