About Meskel
Meskel is a major religious festival in Ethiopia that commemorates the finding of the True Cross by Queen Helena. The celebration features the lighting of a large bonfire called a Demera, around which the faithful gather for processions and prayers. It is a deeply traditional event that brings together followers of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church.
