About Mary Prince Day
Mary Prince Day is a public holiday in Bermuda that honors Mary Prince, an enslaved woman who escaped to England and became the first woman to present an anti-slavery petition to the British Parliament. It is observed as part of the two-day Emancipation commemoration, recognizing her courageous memoir which significantly contributed to the abolition of slavery. The day serves as a moment of national reflection on Bermuda's history and the ongoing pursuit of social justice.
